The flagship Jaguar XJ sedan with the in-plant index X351 was first shown back in 2009, and 6 years later the company's management presented its restyled version. During the renovation, the car acquired a "refreshed" appearance, an expanded list of equipment and, of course, modernized power plants, which were adjusted to the strict environmental standards of Euro-6.

In 2018, for the 50th anniversary of the model, Jaguar introduced a special version, which received the prefix "50" in the name. It is about this version of the flagship sedan that we propose to talk about in today's review.

Appearance

Externally, the Jaguar XJ50 makes a lasting impression with its bold, elegant and at the same time dynamic forms.

The front part of the body sports menacingly squinted head optics with LED daytime running lights, a branded false radiator grille with the Jaguar logo in the center and a neat front bumper with three sections of air intakes, two of which received decorative chrome elements.

The profile of the car is not so much like an executive sedan, but rather like a dynamic 4-door coupe: an elongated bonnet, a domed roofline, elegant splashes on the sidewalls and large 20-diameter rims.

The refined feed is represented by unusual J-shaped side lights, a powerful rear bumper and a pair of oval exhaust pipes.

The external dimensions of the special version are exactly the same as those of the "civilian" XJ sedan:

Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not consider it necessary to report the height of the ground clearance, but it is clear that the car was not designed for off-road conquest.

Customers can choose from a wide base of body colors, which has long been one of the "chips" of Jaguar cars.

The interior of the Jaguar XJ50 impresses with its nobility and aristocracy, which favorably distinguishes the model from its German classmates. The quality of materials, assembly and ergonomics are traditionally high.

In front of the driver, there is a bright and easy-to-read virtual instrument panel, as well as a branded three-spoke steering wheel with an ideal cross-section. In the upper part of the central dashboard, a pair of "turbines" of air ducts are installed, between which a stylish analog clock is nestled. Below is the 8-inch touchscreen monitor of the information and media center, and even lower is the block of auxiliary buttons and the control unit for the in-cabin climate.

The standard car has a five-seater version. The front seats have an excellent profile, a lot of electrical adjustments and other benefits of our time.

A wide tunnel runs between the seats, on which the manufacturer has placed an armrest, a pair of hidden cup holders and a spectacular automatic transmission washer.

The rear sofa can easily accommodate three adult passengers, and if we talk about the elongated version, then there is enough space for riders to easily cross their legs. Optionally, instead of a three-seater sofa, two free-standing armchairs can be installed in the back.

The luggage compartment volume is 520 liters, while the backrests of the rear sofa do not fold. In the underground luggage compartment there was a place for a spare tire and a battery. From the usual Jaguar XJ, the XJ50 version differs only in the diamond-shaped trim of the seats and headrests with embossed brand logo.

One of two engines can be installed under the hood of the special version of the Jaguar XJ50:

1. 3-liter 6-cylinder petrol engine with 340 hp supercharger. with. and 450 Nm of peak torque, which are available at 6500 and 3500-5000 rpm. With this engine, it takes 6.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h and top speed easily reaches 250 km / h. The declared fuel consumption is about 10.5 liters for every 100 km of the distance traveled.
2. 3-liter diesel V6, generating 300 "horses" and 700 Nm of torque, which are available at 4000 and 2000 rpm, respectively. With a diesel installation, acceleration from 0 to 100 requires 6.2 seconds, and the maximum speed is still the same 250 km / h. But the mixed fuel consumption pleases - only 7 l / 100 km.

The car is equipped with a proprietary all-wheel drive transmission, which is implemented according to this scheme - the front axle is put into operation through an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. Depending on the activated mode of operation, 50 to 100% of the torque can be transmitted to the front axle.

Like its regular version, the Jaguar XJ50 is based on the improved bogie model of the previous generation. The sedan's chassis is represented by a two-link and a multi-link front and rear, respectively. Also already in the base of the car are adaptive shock absorbers and pneumatic supports. The steering is rack-and-pinion type, and the braking system is represented by ventilated disc brakes on both axles.
