In order to change the wheel cylinder in the brake mechanism of the rear wheel, you will have to make an effort. Typically, such a replacement is made when the braking process becomes less effective and the reason for this is the leakage of brake fluid or the cycling of the piston in the cylinder itself.

If you see traces of brake fluid on the brake drum, or on the inside of the wheel, you should not panic, but you still have to replace the wheel cylinder. Immediately, we note that there is simply no point in repairing the old one, since practice has shown that the result of repairing the brake mechanism does not meet expectations.

The price of a wheel brake cylinder is small - from 300 to 380 rubles will cost for a VAZ 2108-2115 (LADA) car, etc. There are brands: BOSCH, TRW, FERODO and ATE (Germany), ABS (Netherlands), METELLI (Italy) DELPHI and GIRLING (UK). The most expensive wheel cylinder goes under the FERODO brand - 468 rubles.

Of course, in the modern world, replacing a wheel cylinder in a car is not difficult, since there are a lot of service stations and car services who want to come to your aid. However, all of them are not altruists, and for "THANKS" they will not repair your "iron horse". But you can remove and replace the cylinder yourself. To do this, you need to know what to do. For this, our information will be very useful to you. We repaired on a VAZ 2110 car.

Replacing a wheel cylinder in the brake mechanism of a car

Step-by-step procedure:

1. Put the car in first gear.

2. Secure the front wheels by placing stop blocks underneath them.

3. Remove the wheel where the brake fluid was found to be leaking.

4. Thoroughly clean the attachment points of the wheel cylinder and brake pipe from dirt. You can use WD-40 type fluid to unscrew the brake pipe nut and the cylinder mounting bolts to make it easier.

5. Unscrew the nut that secures the brake pipe to the wheel cylinder.

6. Disconnect the brake hose from the cylinder.

7. Plug the hole in the hose using any available means (for example, a cap from the pumping valve).

8. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the wheel cylinder itself. To do this, it must be held on the other side.

9. Remove the wheel cylinder from the brake shield.

10. Install a new wheel cylinder. The order of its installation is the reverse of its removal.

11. Next, you need to bleed the brake system. It is enough to bleed the replaced wheel cylinder.

12. Remember to install the (protective) cap on the bleed valve.
