In the article, we will describe how to choose and replace the spark plugs, safety precautions when replacing. In the article, we will describe how to choose and replace the spark plugs, safety precautions when replacing.

Spark plugs are one of the main components during ignition of the combustible mixture, thanks to the spark plugs, the cylinders start their work. Despite a new car, or a used one, from time to time the spark plugs need to be checked, cleaned or replaced with new ones. In modern foreign cars, the engine is protected by different plastic, but this should not bother you in any way that you cannot replace it yourself, the main thing would be desire.

Choosing spark plugs

Choosing a new kit is always not an easy decision, as the performance of your machine will depend on it. First of all, you should pay attention to the quality and the manufacturer, do not hesitate to ask to check for performance upon purchase. On the market, you can slip low-quality or non-working, in a car shop, if he values his reputation, they will offer to double-check new spark plugs in order to avoid complaints about the quality. Often in such stores there are special catalogs, according to which you can choose a part specifically for your car.

If you are choosing for the first time, then try to build on two factors - this is the drop number and the geometric shape. With geometry or size, I think everything is clear, you simply cannot screw in or screw in, and the electrodes will not reach the combustion chamber in the motor. A very long spark plug is also not good, as there may be a piston strike on the petals and damage it, or even lead to complete engine damage.

As for the droplet number, this is an indicator of the temperature regime of operation. But if the heated candle is with a low glowing number, it will overheat very quickly, so you need to look for a middle ground, the recommended parameters for selection are indicated in the service book for the car.

Most often, classic spark plugs are chosen, this is a ceramic body, a metal glass at the bottom of which there is a thread and two electrodes. Other candles are also distinguished by petals. It is very easy to recognize such, the central petal covers not one side, but several petals, three or four. Thanks to this design, the fuel in the cylinder is ignited evenly, and it will burn better. Also, engine power will increase slightly, and environmental performance will improve.

The last decision, what to choose, is always yours. The price of a set of classic candles for two petals ranges from 400 to 500 rubles. As for more sophisticated copies of three or more petals, the price of such can range from 600 to 1000 rubles, although some copies are more expensive.

Replacement safety

There is no special safety precautions when replacing, it is better to replace it with a cold engine in order to avoid burns from a hot engine. The spark plugs work at high temperatures, so you should not replace them immediately after the engine is turned off. It is best to let the engine cool down and only then start working.

Replacing spark plugs

There is no difficulty in replacing, the main thing is to do everything step by step and be careful. Having decided what tools we need, we get to work, remove the protection from the engine, if any. To measure the gap between the petals, we need a dipstick; to unscrew the candles, we need a special candle wrench, sometimes an extension cord to it. The first thing we need to do is remove the wires from the candles.

Before removing, we advise you to write down or sign on the wires the order of arrangement relative to the cylinders, despite the fact that they can be twisted together, they are not installed in a chaotic manner, but strictly according to the cycle of supplying current from the distributor through the wires, in the same order as the work pistons in the engine. Swapping is strictly prohibited.

We unscrew the candle from the well, the place of planting the candle. Now it is worth cleaning the well itself, it should be done very carefully so that dirt and foreign objects do not get into the cylinder, since then you will have to disassemble the cylinder head. If they are clean, then you can leave them alone.

It is not recommended to unscrew all the candles at once, it will be inconvenient to clean, put new ones, and dirt can get in faster. It is better to go according to the scheme, unscrew the old one, screw in a new one, and so on until you go over everything.

It is not always worthwhile to immediately run to the market and buy new spark plugs, sometimes it is worth unscrewing and seeing if the working plug is dirty. We proceed to cleaning, for this we need a little gasoline or liquid to clean the carburetor, they remove carbon deposits well on the petals, then we will clean the petals with sandpaper. It is best to use # 0 or # 1 sandpaper. Some experienced drivers, by the condition of plug fouling or color, can determine how well the piston system works, what the quality of the fuel is. If the carbon deposits formed are black, this is the first indicator of poor fuel, which gives such carbon deposits. As a result, the spark will disappear, the car will start to twitch at idle, and it will not start well in cold weather. In the case when there is no carbon or brown color, this will be an indicator of good engine performance and good fuel.

Having cleared the wells and candles from dirt, we go to the reverse process, installing candles. When tightening, do not clamp it tightly, as you can break the thread on the cylinder head, a couple of turns is enough. Having tightened the candles, we put high-voltage wires, until a characteristic click, the main thing is not to mix up the wires, this will lead to engine breakdown.

The procedure at first glance is confusing and complicated, but in reality it can be absolutely simply replaced at home, at a service station for such a procedure, on average, they take from 600 to 1200 rubles, plus add the cost of a set of candles on top.
