Detailed step-by-step instructions with photo support for the repair and replacement of the telescopic rack on a VAZ 2110 car Detailed step-by-step instructions with photo support for the repair and replacement of the telescopic rack on a VAZ 2110 car.

As a rule, when repairing a shock absorber strut, it is not always possible to obtain the desired result. Therefore, if necessary, it is recommended to change the shock absorber strut to a new one.

In what order to repair the telescopic rack:

1. First of all, read how to remove a telescopic rack from a VAZ 2110 car.

2. Clamp the stand in a vice, and then compress the spring using special ties. Then, using the tool, unscrew the upper nut of the strut support and the shock absorber rod, while the latter must be kept from turning.

3. Dismantle the upper support on the car pillar.

4. Remove the upper spring cup.

5. Remove the telescopic strut spring itself.

6. Loosen the shock absorber strut from the protective cover with the compression travel buffer. 7. If the strut housing, the spring cup located at the bottom, as well as the swing arm and the bracket have undergone deformation and destruction, cracked, then this condition indicates the need to replace the shock absorber strut. It is forbidden to make any welding on it, as a result of which its performance will be disrupted.

8. Next, the shock absorber strut must be fixed in a vertical position and a couple of times to raise and lower the shock absorber rod until it stops. This is done in order to understand if there are any jams, knocks and failures in the course of his movement. If any are found, the telescopic rack requires replacement and cannot be repaired. Reasons for replacement may also be a broken thread in the upper part of the stem or fluid leakage (only slight sweating is permissible).

In order to sort out the shock absorber strut, it is best to turn to the services of a specialized workshop, since a special tool and, importantly, skill are required to repair it.

9. In addition to conventional hydraulic shock absorbers, there are also shock absorbers in the so-called cartridge (one-piece non-separable body). If there is such a mechanism in a car, then to replace it, you need to knock down the compression buffer support, use a special wrench to unscrew the nut of the strut housing, remove the old cartridge and install a new one. If the cartridge needs to be installed instead of a simple hydraulic shock absorber, then the rod with the working cylinder must be released from the body to drain the fluid. Then the body should be rinsed inside and, following the manufacturer's instructions, install a new cartridge.

10. You also need to pay attention to the condition of the protective casing and the compression stroke buffer. If the latter is damaged, it must be changed. If the rubber has peeled off from the metal reinforcement on the protective casing, and also if the casing has cracks, torn sections, does not have the necessary elasticity, then it is time to replace it.

11. The bearing requires replacement if there is axial movement in the support housing; it is noticed that grease is leaking from under the protective rings; the bearing is seized during turning; and also due to corrosion. It may be necessary to replace the upper support housing if cracks appear on it. Or you can replace the complete support. The stud threads can also be worn out and needless to be replaced.

12. Deformation of the spring coils, cracks on it also signal the need to change the part. To check the spring draft, you need to press it three times so that the coils touch. Then load the spring with a load of 3187 N (325 kgf). Under this pressure, the spring must have a length of at least 201 mm (182 mm - for export cars).

The process of compression of the spring is carried out along its axis: it is required that the supporting surfaces are in accordance with the surfaces of the support cups, which are located on the telescopic rack. Springs with yellow (in the export version - white) marking (class A) may have a length of less than 207 mm (188 - subject to export), then you should replace it with a spring where the marking is green (blue - export cars) (class B) ... It is best to change both springs in the front suspension (they must belong to the same group). Also replace the broken upper spring cup.

13. Replace the telescopic strut mounting bolts with worn threads.

14. Now you need to start assembling the telescopic rack from the end, starting from the last process (in reverse order). The guard must be slid over the annular groove that is located on the compression travel buffer.

15. The installed spring must be positioned so that its end is pressed against the protrusion of the lower cup until it stops. In the same way, you need to install the upper cup on the spring.

16. Only when your car is already on the ground, finally tighten the shock absorber rod nut.
