Review of the second generation German crossover - BMW X1 2015-2016. Read about its technical characteristics and differences from the previous model.

The first generation BMW X1 sold around 730,000 units in its first year of sales. There was a restyling, and now the Germans have decided to launch a new one, which is rightfully the following. There has not been an official presentation yet, it will take place in autumn 2015, in Frankfurt. It should be said right away that the new "X" uses the new UKL platform, which implies permanent front-wheel drive, as well as the transverse arrangement of the engine - all this, I must say, is at least atypical for BMW.

Exterior of the new BMW X1 2015

So, let's start with a small overview of the appearance, and then move on to more private moments. The stylish radiator grille of the new BMW X1 F48, squinted headlights with cut-off angel eyes, an aluminum bumper in the center and wide air ducts around the edges of the bumper are the main details that catch the eye at a quick glance. By analogy with the X3, fog lamps were installed under the headlights, and from there the shape of the head optics was also installed. However, the feeling of a copy of the new BMW X1 does not evoke.

The profile is typical for the Bavarians. There is nothing wrong with that, because the style, which has been perfected for half a century, has almost reached perfection here: clear, impetuous lines that intertwine with smooth, elegant shapes, massive wheel arches, a “fin” on the roof. The BMW X1 2015-2016 in the base comes in 17 ", optionally you can get 18 or 19". Of course, each disc has a unique design.

The feed received LED lights, fog lights on the bumper, as well as an almost bare rear door. This gives the car a certain elegance. But with the exhaust, neither the designers nor the constructors began to invent anything. These are just chrome-plated tailpipes. In general, considering a particular exterior is somehow wrong, because 4 packages have been developed for the BMW X1: M Sport, Advantage, xLine and Sport Line.

Now the dimensions of the new BMW X1 2015:

  • Length - 4439 mm
  • Width - 1821 mm
  • Height - 1598
  • Wheelbase - 2670 mm
  • Front track - 1561 mm
  • Back track - 1562 mm
  • Ground clearance - 183 mm (although under the protection of the engine I measured only 165 mm, as they believed, it is unknown)
  • Trunk volume - 505/1550 L
  • Curb weight - 1650 kg
  • Gross weight - 2170 kg

Interior of BMW X1 F48

As always, you can talk about the interior of the German car industry for a very long time, and if it is a BMW, then the time of the story tends to infinity. First of all, the resizing is worth noting. Although the wheelbase has decreased to 2.67 meters, the legs for the rear passenger have added 6.6 cm, but only with optional combined seats (we will talk about them a little later), if the sofa is "basic", then this increase does not exceed 37 mm ... Yes, there are many borrowed from the 2-Series, however, there are many of their own "zest".

Driver's seat, front row

Probably, it is worth considering the interior this way, because the rear and front passengers see the car completely differently. As always, in the style of BMW, the center console is turned towards the driver, the ergonomics are at a high level, for example, the CD changer is located at a pleasant height, so that it is not necessary to reach down to it, and the multimedia display allows you not to be distracted from the road, because it is raised to the level of the windshield.

The central tunnel is not overloaded with functions, there is only an IDrive joystick, as well as a "handbrake". A niche for a trifle neatly hides behind a sliding curtain, next to the gearshift lever there are switches for driving modes. Dual-zone climate control, as well as active "cruise", in combination with "memory seats" (only in options) - all this will help the driver to safely overcome hundreds of kilometers without the slightest fatigue.

The driver's seat of the BMW X1 2015 is capable of memorizing 7 adjustments, which allows you to set its profile exactly to the shape of the rider's body. In total, you can remember 2 positions, which is logical, rarely more than 2 people drive one car. Just like in the exterior, depending on the package, the interior can be made in different colors. The standard equipment is quite impressive: the IDrive system has already received many features, which the manufacturer is still silent about, however, such "secrets" as Connected Drive or Eco Pro Analyzer have been revealed.

The first add-on helps to connect to the Internet, as the name implies, for example, to check traffic information. The second is also named for a reason: a fuel consumption tracking system, as well as optimization of driving modes. It's nice that the driver controls all of this, oddly enough, and not all of this by the driver.

Back seat and passengers

As mentioned above, the 2015 BMW X1 in the back is a completely different world. Let's start with the fact that now two adults can sit here. Not that "royally", but, nevertheless, quite convenient. The central tunnel, which slightly looks out here, is equipped with air ducts, and there are niches in the doors for small change. This is compensation for the lack of a rear shelf. It's nice that the speakers are now located not below the knees, but just below the shoulder. Also, the convenience of installing a child seat has now been transferred to the front passenger - now he does not have to move his seat forward.

The optional sofa consists of three unconnected parts, each of which can be folded down simply by pulling on a lever that is easy to see. Simple, convenient, functional. In addition, each part moves forward / backward, and the backrest tilt is also adjustable.

Trunk BMW X1 2015

In the last generation, a maximum of 1350 liters of usable space was achieved. There are as many as 1,550 if you fold the back seat. However, the lack of a flat floor is a little embarrassing. No wonder, the seats are now 64 mm higher than before.

Specifications BMW X1 2015

At the moment, there are 4 co-platforms on the UKL, including Mini, Active / Tourer 2-Series. So, this stallion has already been outflanked, having received its enemies and admirers. As mentioned at the beginning of the article, previously almost all BMW cars had permanent rear-wheel drive, and the longitudinal engine arrangement was considered traditional. Now, despite such a move, the weight distribution along the axes has remained in the spirit of the “Bavarian”, in statics it is exactly half-and-half.

At the front, the new BMW X1 2015-2016 received a MacPherson suspension, with electrically adjustable shock absorber stiffness (it changes depending on the selected driving mode), while at the back there is a traditional multi-link suspension, which, by the way, is also with adjustable stiffness.

Engines

By October, it is planned to launch two power units: a gasoline turbocharged in-line "four", as well as an atmospheric diesel engine with varying degrees of boost.

Let's start with the 2015 BMW X1 gasoline engine. This is the b48, which, to reduce production costs, is unified with three-cylinder engines. They will come out later, according to company representatives. So, this engine has a volume of 2 liters, and the power can vary from 192 to 231 (X1 xDrive25i) horsepower. The maximum torque of 350 Nm is reached already at 1250 crankshaft rpm and up to 4000. This makes the engine very flexible. The twin scroll compressor, throttleless Valvetronic, in combination with phase control, optimized the operating modes and reduced petrol consumption to 6.5 liters in the combined cycle. At the same time, acceleration to a hundred takes about 6.5 seconds for a 231-horsepower engine.

The younger b48 has a torque of 280 Nm and accelerates the 2015 BMW X1 to 100 km / h in 7.7 seconds. It is only available with sDrive front-wheel drive.

The diesel unit of the new BMW X1 2015 can develop 150, 190 or 231 (xDrive25d) horsepower. For such engines, the dynamics will be 9.2, 7.6 and 6.6 seconds to hundreds, and the torque will be 330, 400 and 450 Nm, respectively. As for the consumption, it also corresponds to 4.1, 4.6 and 5.2 liters per 100 kilometers.

All engines are 16-valve. 4 cylinders in a row.

The manufacturer says three-cylinder engines up to 1.5 liters will be unveiled by December.

Transmission

As mentioned above, the car can be equipped with all-wheel drive, or only front-wheel drive. The second option is offered for a 192-horsepower gasoline engine and a 150-horsepower diesel engine. Four-wheel drive can work both on the basis of a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

The rear axle is connected by an electro-hydraulic Haldex clutch, which is capable of transmitting absolutely all traction to it, that is, up to 100%, and not 50/50, as it was before. Thus, the BMW 1 transforms from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive.

2015 BMW X1 price, configuration, start of sales and some reasoning

Of course, there has not been an official presentation yet, and therefore, guessing about the trim levels is pointless, so what we have: in the base is a front-wheel drive BMW 1 2015 with a transverse arrangement of a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine. The world must have gone crazy. However, despite this, the cars remain stylish, fast, to some extent beautiful, multifunctional and reliable, and for the fans of the brand they have already become perfection.

Until recently, the company said that the X1 is an "addition" to the lineup, which was collected from what was. They were not going to develop it, because they were afraid to get an internal competitor for the X3, as the saying goes: “What we fought for, we ran into it!”. Three years ago, the BMW X1 could only compete with the VW Tiguan, and now such “Moors” as the second generation Tiguan, GLA and Q3 are on its “black list”. It is noteworthy that the assembly of the car will not be carried out in Leipzig, but in Regensburg, where all the co-platforms are assembled.

The price for the new 2015 BMW X1 is still unknown, in all likelihood, we will find out in about a month, according to company representatives, it is unlikely to be less than 28,000 euros.
