In 2001, the Japanese carmaker Nissan first demonstrated the first generation of the X-Trail compact crossover, which, thanks to its brutality, spacious interior and good off-road capabilities, instantly fell in love with the male audience.

6 years later, Nissan introduced the second generation of the crossover, which received a cosmetic update of the exterior, a modernized interior and a wider list of equipment. At the same time, the general style of the car remained unchanged - the crossover still sported angular shapes, a muscular profile and was devoid of any external embellishments.

But the situation changed dramatically in 2013, when the official debut of the third generation of X-Trail took place, which caused a storm of discussions in the world media.

To say that the new X-Trail has changed is to say nothing. The crossover has got a better quality interior, a modern technical component and a completely rethought exterior design, which has lost its angularity and clumsiness. Thus, the company's management was able to attract the attention of a female audience, which, in turn, had a positive effect on the overall sales.

In 2016, in Miami, the company presents a restyling of the third generation of the model, which received minor changes in the external appearance and interior decoration, as well as a richer list of basic and optional equipment. It is this Nissan X-Trail restyling 2017 that turned out to be on our review.

The appearance of the updated X-Trail

Let's start our Nissan X-Trail 2017 review traditionally with a description of the appearance of the new product, which, in comparison with its predecessor, received only minor changes, most of which fell on the front of the crossover. So, the car has acquired a larger optics of head light, an impressive size V-shaped false radiator grille and a new design of the front bumper, which received stylish "rectangles" foglights and a spectacular "lip" made of black plastic.

The profile of the car retained the style of its predecessor, but additionally acquired new thresholds and a modified style of alloy wheels. Changes to the rear of the crossover affected the design of the side lights and the bumper, which added some size and received larger rear fog lights. Around the entire perimeter of the body there is a stylish plastic body kit, reminiscent of the off-road component of the model.

The dimensions of the 2017 Nissan X-Trail are:

  • In length - 4.64 m;
  • Wide - 1.82 m;
  • In height - 1.71 m;
  • Distance between axles - 2.7 m.

Thanks to the impressive ground clearance of 210 mm, the car can easily move not only around the city and country road, but also on light off-road. But we must admit that with the release of the third generation, the car has become more "home" and is not suitable for more or less serious off-road sorties.

The cherry on top was the release of three new body colors, bringing the total number of available colors to seven.

Interior design of the crossover Nissan X-Trail 2017

The restyled version of the Nissan X-Trail 2017 has acquired a better interior design, which is in no way inferior to the representatives of the European school of automotive engineering. As a result, the materials are pleasing to the eye and extremely pleasant to the touch, and the build quality will not raise any questions even with the most picky study.

In comparison with its predecessor, the car received a new multifunctional steering wheel, but the dashboard remained the same and boasts the same information content and competent layout. The central part of the dashboard, depending on the equipment option, boasts a 5 or 7-inch display of the multimedia complex, as well as a neat and easy-to-use climate control unit. The good news is the emergence of a wider choice of interior design options, which will especially appeal to fans of maximum personalization.

The front seats have well-thought-out ergonomics and a wide range of adjustments, thanks to which a person of any size can easily be accommodated here. Considering the Nissan X-Trail 2017 characteristics of the rear sofa, it is worth noting the presence of not only a sufficient amount of free space, but also the absence of a central tunnel, due to which three adult passengers will comfortably fit here.

Special attention should be paid to the fact that for a surcharge, the buyer can retrofit the car with a third row of seats, on which only children and adolescents will be more or less comfortable.

The boot volume of the 2017 Nissan X-Trail is 550 liters in the classic layout and can reach 1982 liters with the second row seats folded. Another "feature" of the novelty was the emergence of an electric tailgate, which until recently was offered only in cars of the executive segment.

Nissan X-Trail 2017 - specifications

Nissan X-Trail 2017 in Russia can be equipped with one of three engines: two gasoline and one diesel.

  1. 2-liter petrol engine developing 144 hp. and 200 Nm of torque, a pair of which can be a 6-speed "mechanics" or a continuously variable robot. To accelerate from 0 to 100, such an engine needs 11.1 seconds. The top speed is 183 km / h and the combined cycle fuel consumption is 7.1 liters per 100 km.
  2. 2.5-liter petrol engine, squeezing out 171 "horses" and allowing the car to change the first "hundred" in 10.5 seconds. The increase in power had a positive effect on the "maximum speed", which increased to 191 km / h, and negatively affected the consumption, which fluctuates within 8.3 liters.
  3. a 1.6-liter diesel engine with a power of 130 hp, which allows to obtain 320 Nm of rotational thrust and accelerate to a maximum of 186 km / h. It takes 11 seconds to accelerate to a hundred, and the average fuel consumption does not exceed 5.4 l / 100 km.

In the European market, the car is additionally available with a 2-liter 177-horsepower diesel engine, and in America - with an electric-gasoline engine with a capacity of 176 "horses".

The new Nissan X-Trail is built on a proprietary CMF bogie, offered with both front and all-wheel drive, while the front suspension is represented by classic MacPherson struts, and the rear suspension is multi-link. The steering is represented by an adjustable electric booster that can change its behavior depending on the type of roadway.

The test drive of the Nissan X-Trail 2017 proved that the off-road capabilities of the crossover are quite modest, so it is highly discouraged to go by car to storm not only serious, but also medium off-road.
