In 2012, the American company Tesla demonstrated a conceptual version of its first electric crossover, named Model X. The car immediately attracted the attention of a huge number of motorists, which was facilitated not only by its unusual appearance and innovative technical filling, but also by opening upward doors, made in the style of the legendary Mercedes. Benz W198, popularly known as the "Gull Wing".

In the fall of 2015, despite all the doubts of automobile critics, the company presented a production version of the SUV, which practically did not differ from the concept presented earlier. Official sales of the car in the United States started in the second half of 2016, and at the end of August of the same year, Tesla's management presented the top-end Model X modification, which received a prefix to the name - P100D.

Looking ahead, we note that the Tesla Model X P100D is currently the fastest production electric crossover in the world, capable of changing the first hundred in just 3.1 seconds. Thanks to such dynamics, the car is in no way inferior to such hypercars as the Porsche 918 Spider and Ferrari LaFerrari, also equipped with hybrid engines.

It is worth paying tribute to American designers and constructors, as they managed to create a truly unusual and extremely attractive crossover, which seemed to have descended from the pages of a science fiction novel. True, the novelty can be called a crossover only conditionally, since the car is devoid of almost all the attributes characteristic of crossovers.

From whatever side you look, the Tesla Model X P100D meets perfectly adjusted aerodynamic proportions, thanks to which the drag coefficient is only 0.24 Cx.


The front part of the crossover attracts attention with stylish and somewhat predatory head optics, as well as the absence of a false radiator grille, which is usual for cars with an internal combustion engine, instead of which there is a stylish chrome insert with the brand logo located in the center. The front bumper is made in a minimalistic style, and its most striking element is the originally designed fog lamp block.

The profile of the car looks powerful and swift, which is facilitated by the presence of large wheel arches, a back windshield and a sloping roofline, as well as original stampings along the side doors. However, the main feature of the car is the rear side doors that open upwards, called "falcon wings". Structurally, the rear doors consist of several blocks, so that the doors can be opened in a space limited by 30 centimeters to the side of the car. It is also worth noting that instead of the side mirrors familiar to everyone, the car received special cameras, which takes some time to get used to.

The powerful stern pleases the eye with a large tailgate equipped with a small spoiler, as well as a massive rear bumper and spectacular marker lights on LED-elements.
External dimensions of the car are:

  • Length - 5004 mm;
  • Width - 2083 mm;
  • Height - 1626 mm;
  • Wheelbase equal to 3061 mm, which is one of the best indicators in its class.


Already in the basic version, the car is equipped with air suspension, thanks to which the ground clearance can reach an impressive 230 mm - an indicator that is inaccessible to most modern crossovers.

Customers can choose from several variations of body colors, each of which favorably emphasizes all the stylistic decisions of Tesla designers.

The interior design of the car looks no less futuristic than its exterior. At the same time, everything is done in a minimalistic manner, which favorably distinguishes the crossover against the background of countless gasoline and diesel competitors. The architecture of the front panel is pleasing to the eye, while the almost complete absence of mechanical buttons is immediately noticed, the functions of which are performed simply by a huge 17-inch touchscreen display mounted in the central part of the dashboard.

In front of the driver there is a stylish multifunctional steering wheel and a digital instrument panel, on which it is possible to display almost any information of interest to the driver. The quality and fit of materials is fully consistent with luxury cars; the cabin uses only soft plastics, natural wood, leather, aluminum and carbon. The front seats have an ergonomic profile, as well as a wide range of electrical adjustments to accommodate a person of any height and build. The second row of armchairs can be equipped with a three-seater sofa or a pair of separate seats, and whichever option is chosen, there is even more free space here than is needed. The third row of seats is only suitable for children or teenagers, which is facilitated by the low roofline.

Note that the car has not one, but two luggage compartments at once. The first is where the engine is located in a conventional car, and the second is in the usual place. The volume of the trunk located in the front is 187 liters, and in the rear - from 200 to 2180 liters, depending on the configuration of the cabin. There is a small niche in the luggage compartment underground, and with the rear seats folded down, the user gets an almost perfectly flat loading space.

Specifications Version X P100D

Tesla Model X in the P100D version is the maximum modification of the crossover, offering the user a whole herd of 762 "horses" and a maximum return of 967 Nm of rotational thrust. The main difference between the P100D version and the simpler 70D, 90D and 100D versions is the presence of more capacious batteries, as well as a unique operating mode - Tesla Model X P100D Ludicrous, which equips the car with the characteristics of a Formula 1 car. So, the acceleration from 0 to 100 is carried out in just 3.1 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited by an electronic noose at around 250 km / h, although it seems that the car is capable of more.

A test drive of the Model X in the P100D version proved that on a single battery charge, the car can easily cover about 542 km.


Most of the car body is made of aluminum. An independent suspension with paired wishbones is installed on the front axle of the electric vehicle, and a multi-link on the rear axle. The steering has a rack and pinion type and is represented by an electric booster, but ventilated disc brakes and a large number of modern electronic systems are responsible for braking.

Important: it takes about 20 minutes for the car to activate Ludicrous mode, which may not please people who do not have enough patience.

Tesla Model X P100D is an unusual and attractive car, distinguished by its original interior design, excellent dynamic characteristics and a large power reserve. This is a machine thanks to which we can already imagine what our near future will be like.

Despite the rather high cost, the car is in consistently high demand not only at home, but also in a number of European countries, whose residents have appreciated the opportunities that the new Model X opens up for them.
