Over the past few years, the domestic AvtoVAZ has grown strongly and can practically compete with Korean and even some European automakers. Therefore, we decided to turn our attention to the model range of the domestic brand and compare two "universal" models - Lada Largus and Lada Vesta station wagon (SW).

Of course, the cars have different starting prices, but the more interesting the comparison will be, since during it we will find out which is better - the base Vesta or the "stuffed" Largus.

The appearance of Lada Vesta and Lada Largus

Serial production of Lada Largus started in 2012, although the pre-production version of the car was shown back in 2010. From the point of view of appearance, this is a slightly corrected Renault Logan MCV of the first generation, which was quite popular among our compatriots.

At the time of its debut, the car looked good for a station wagon, but today its design looks frankly outdated.

The "muzzle" of the station wagon meets with large optics and a trapezoidal false radiator grille, and the stern - with vertical marker lights and two asymmetrical leaves of swing doors.

Profile - typical for a station wagon: a long and flat roof, large glass area and large side doors.

The external dimensions of Lada Largus have the following parameters:

Length, mm4470
Width, mm1750
Height, mm1636
Wheel base, mm2905

The standard ground clearance is 160 mm, and at maximum load it is reduced to 145 mm. The choice of buyers is offered 6 body colors: "glacial", "fiery red", "gray basalt", "cashmere", "diplomat" and "black pearl".

In terms of design, the Lada Vesta SW is far superior to its opponent. Despite the presence of a station wagon body, the car looks stylish, modern and dynamic.

The X-shaped "muzzle" of the car meets with large head optics, a neat false radiator grille and a pair of round foglights built into the front bumper.

The station wagon's profile exhibits X-shaped sidewalls, a sloping roofline and original C-pillars.

The rear of the Vesta demonstrates a large tailgate, a powerful bumper and large side lights. In general, no matter from which side you look, the car is pleasing to the eye, for which many thanks to the designers.

External dimensions of Lada Vesta SW:

Length, mm4410
Width, mm1764
Height, mm1512
Wheel base, mm2635

The station wagon rises above the road by 178 mm, and its palette includes 8 body colors: "glacial", "carnelian", "Angkor", "Carthage", "blues", "phantom", "pluto" and "black pearl".

As you can see, Lada Vesta outright outperforms its opponent in terms of design, but loses in size.

Interior design of Lada Vesta and Lada Largus

Salon Lada Largus fully corresponds to the exterior of the car. In front of the driver there is a well-read instrument panel and a three-spoke steering wheel, devoid of any additional functionality.

In the central part, a radio tape recorder and an outwardly outdated control unit for the heating and ventilation system are installed. The quality of finishing materials and assembly are budgetary, but the ergonomics are not bad.

The front seats provide a normal seating position and lack any lateral support. A second-row sofa without revelations, but there is free space here with your head. Moreover, even the third (optional) row is suitable for planting adults, but it's not at all convenient to get in there.

The trunk volume in the five-seater version is 560 liters, in the seven-seater - 135, and with the 2nd and 3rd row of seats folded - 2350 liters.

As is the case with the exterior, the interior of the Lada Vesta SW greatly surpasses that of the Largus, both in terms of design and assembly, and in relation to the materials used.

In front of the driver is a stylish "tidy" and a multifunctional three-spoke steering wheel. In the central part of the dashboard, the LCD display of the media center flaunts, and just below - an intuitive and pleasant-looking climate control unit.

Front riders are offered comfortable seats with good lateral support and a sufficient number of adjustments. The second row of seats easily accommodates three riders, with just as much free space as needed.

But the third row is not even available as an option. The trunk volume is 480 liters as standard, and with the rear sofa folded down it increases to 825 liters.

Specifications Lada Vesta vs Lada Largus

One of two power plants can be located under the hood of the Lada Largus:

  1. 1.6-liter petrol engine developing 87 liters. with. and 140 Nm of torque. With it, the first "hundred" is conquered after 14.4 seconds, the maximum speed reaches 158 km / h, and the combined consumption is 8.2 l / 100 km.
  2. 1.6-liter unit generating 106 hp and 148 Nm of rotational thrust. This is enough for the car to accelerate to 100 km / h in 13.5 seconds, reach a maximum of 165 km / h and consume about 8 l / 100 km.

Regardless of the engine power, its "partner" is a 5-speed manual transmission.

At the heart of the car is the front-wheel drive bogie "B0", represented by MacPherson struts on the front axle and a semi-independent U-shaped beam on the rear.

The steering is supplemented by a hydraulic booster, and the disc and drum brakes located in the front and rear, respectively, are responsible for braking.

For Lada Vesta SW, the manufacturer also provided two engines:

  1. 1.6-liter petrol engine producing 106 liters. and 148 Nm of torque. It can be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed "automatic". In the first case, acceleration to 100 km / h requires 12.4 seconds, and in the second - 14.4 seconds. The maximum speed reaches 178 km / h, and the average fuel consumption is 7-7.3 l / 10 km.
  2. 1.8-liter gasoline engine generating 122 "mares" and 170 Nm of thrust. Its "partner" can also be an automatic or manual transmission with 5 speeds. With manual transmission acceleration to "hundreds" requires 10.6 seconds, and with automatic transmission - 12.9 seconds. The maximum speed is declared at around 182 km / h, and the average fuel consumption is 7.6-7.8 l / 100 km.

"Vesta" is based on the VAZ bogie "Lada B", which assumes the presence of an independent front suspension with MacPherson struts and a semi-independent beam on the rear. The steering is supplemented with an electric booster, and braking occurs due to the front "ventilated" discs and rear "drums".

Conclusion

So we got to the most interesting thing, namely, the definition of the winner. Our favorite is Lada Vesta SW, which in its basic version has everything you need for a comfortable stay in the car. Moreover, the car has a modern exterior and interior, a fairly spacious interior and a large number of electronic assistants.

On the other hand, if you need an unpretentious "hard worker", while external and internal design is of secondary importance - it is better to look towards Lada Largus, which can also offer a third row of seats.
